Vacaville, CA – July 29, 2025 – Nation’s Finest, a non-profit dedicated to providing housing stability and wrap-around support services for Veterans, proudly announces the launch of the Bonds of Sisterhood Fund — a new initiative to honor, support, and connect Women Veterans across the North Bay.
Today, nearly one in five U.S. Veterans is a woman — a number that continues to grow. Yet too often, their stories go unheard and their unique needs often unmet. The Bonds of Sisterhood Fund aims to change that by providing safe, welcoming spaces where Women Veterans can come together to build community, share their experiences, and uplift one another through genuine connection.
“When I served, I marveled every day at the grit and grace of the women serving beside me. But I also recognized that they faced challenges that I did not, and those challenges continue after our time in uniform. Too often though, they must fight those in isolation,” noted Chris Flaherty, CEO of Nation’s Finest and U.S. Navy Veteran. “Bonds of Sisterhood is about changing that and creating a circle of shared strength, an opportunity for women Veterans to come together in community. It says: you are not alone, your story matters, and this journey after service gets a little easier when taken together.”
The Bonds of Sisterhood Fund was inspired by a Veteran named Betty, a client of Nation’s Finest in Vacaville. After sharing her powerful story earlier this summer, Betty sparked the vision for the Fund, which came to life through a generous gift and partnership with the Rachel and Eric Jones Family Foundation.
“Sisterhood means unity and community. A group of like-minded women united together, sharing, healing, strengthening, and growing together as one,” says Betty about the importance of connecting with other Women Veterans.
This week, Nation’s Finest hosted its inaugural Bonds of Sisterhood event at The Library of Journey Downtown in Vacaville. Veteran-led and intentionally intimate, the gathering welcomed nearly 20 Women Veterans for an evening of conversation, reflection, and shared experience.
Nation’s Finest invites the community to join us in expanding Bonds of Sisterhood to help create more spaces where Women Veterans can feel seen, heard, and supported.
