Root Garden ribbon cutting ceremony invitationMather, CA — Nation’s Finest, a 50-year-old nonprofit organization providing housing, mental health support, case management, and job training services to Veterans and their families, partnered with Raley’s and the Sacramento Kings Foundation as part of their ‘Do Good Summit’ to build a ROOT Garden at Mather Veterans Village to connect Veterans with fresh, locally sourced, sustainable produce to support healthy living.

“This is an exciting step in our mission to holistically support our Veterans,” says Kerry Navarrette, Program Support Specialist, Nation’s Finest, Mather Veterans Village. “The ROOT garden will provide our Veterans with sustainable produce while they learn how to grow their own fruits and vegetables. This way, they’ll develop healthy habits and strengthen their self-sufficiency, two goals we set for our Veterans to take with them once they leave the support of Mather Veterans Village.”

Starting at 10:30am at Mather Veterans Village at 10621 Schirra Ave. Mather, CA 95655, the ROOT garden opening will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, photos in the garden, media interviews, and food prepared by Yvette Waters, Nutrition Educator for Raley’s, with Nation’s Finest Veterans and volunteers from the Sacramento Kings. The event ends at noon.

“We welcome anyone who would like to come celebrate with us,” says Kerry. “That is the idea behind the ROOT community garden — to build healthy, thriving spaces that support and involve the community.”

Each year, Nation’s Finest in Mather supports hundreds of Veterans with resources to become housed, connected, and self-sufficient. The full Nation’s Finest organization serves 7,000+ Veterans across Nevada, Arizona, and California, with 150,000+ served since our inception in 1972.
