Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program - Suicide Prevention Grant Awards AnnouncedSanta Rosa, CA – 10/18/2022 – Nation’s Finest will soon be offering suicide prevention services specific to military veterans in the Sacramento and Santa Rosa areas, empowered by the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

The grant for Nation’s Finest became active on October 1st, and the agency is now hiring and onboarding staff to provide services. Of the 44,298 U.S. adults that died from suicide in 2020, 6,146 were veterans – a rate 57.3% higher than the rest of the population according to the 2022 National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report.

The Staff Sergeant Fox Suicide Prevention Grant enables Nation’s Finest to provide resources toward community-based suicide prevention efforts to meet the needs of veterans and their families through outreach, suicide prevention services, and connection to VA and community resources. The grant program is part of the Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act of 2019, signed into law on October 17, 2020.

Specialized veteran suicide prevention programs are now added to the list of services Nation’s Finest provides to veterans and their families which focus on health, housing, and employment. Nation’s Finest has been providing services to military veterans for the last 50 years, guiding veterans home since 1972.

Veterans experiencing an acute crisis should call the Veterans Crisis Line (dial 988 or text 838255). Those interested in accessing suicide prevention resources at Nation’s Finest can call our Santa Rosa office at 707-578-8387 or our Sacramento office at 916-393-8387. Nation’s Finest provides all services at no cost to the veteran.
